What cookies and localStorage do
Cookies are small values a website can place in a browser and, depending on their configuration, receive with later requests. localStorage is a separate browser mechanism that allows site code to retain values on the same origin. localStorage values are not automatically attached to HTTP requests. Both should be understood as forms of device storage rather than as guarantees of anonymity.
What this site's code uses
The current site code does not set analytics or advertising cookies and does not load third-party tracking libraries. It can save the preference you choose below in localStorage. This does not enable an optional tracker: none is included in the current code. Reading articles does not require you to save a preference.
| Name | Type and value | Purpose and duration |
|---|---|---|
| ottermaplehorizn-consent | localStorage: accept or essential | Remembers your selected preference in this browser until you replace it, clear site storage or the browser removes it. |
Your browser preference
“Accept” records a general preference; it does not activate any optional technology on this version of the site. “Essential Only” records that you do not want optional tracking. You can change either choice here.
No optional tracking is enabled.
Contact drafts are not preference storage
The contact tool holds entered text in the current page to prepare a preview. It does not write drafts to localStorage or send them to a server. A downloaded file and copied clipboard text are controlled by your device, not by the stored site preference. Your browser may restore form contents according to its own settings.
Changing or removing a record
Use the controls above to replace the preference. To remove it entirely, clear this site's cookies and site data through your browser settings. This may also remove other origin-specific data. Browser restrictions, private browsing and storage policies can prevent saving or cause values to disappear. Your saved preference applies only to the browser and origin where it was recorded.
Infrastructure and external websites
Hosting or security infrastructure may process technical request data independently of this page's JavaScript. External websites opened through source links have their own storage and privacy practices. This page describes the publication's own code; any additional technologies introduced into the deployed service must be assessed and disclosed before use.
